Testing photoshop techniques

I’ve come across some very helpful photoshop tutorials on Youtube: this one is about sharpening images and explains various excellent methods to do so – highly recommended!; this one is about “making colors pop” and has interesting insights on a few photoshop tools; and these (here and here) are about frequency separation, an easy way to correct photos – especially in portraits. Below are the results of my first attempts at these new techniques (click photos for larger size on my Flickr page):
